If you're interested in learning of new Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) pathways, you're in the right place. Alberta is swiftly becoming one of the most sought-after provinces due to its lower cost of living compared to other popular provinces of choice such as British Columbia and Ontario. The province has since etched its name into the wall of fame through its recent alteration of its Expression of Interest (EOI) in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

Alberta launched its Worker EOI on September 30, 2024. This pathway will allow interested candidates to submit a Worker EOI through the AAIP portal and complete an online form to indicate their interest in migrating to the province. One of the attractive features of this pathway, is the fact that there is no up front fee requirement for interested candidates to submit a Worker EOI. Each Worker EOI is then scored and ranked using the Worker EOI points grid, a very similar process to Canada’s federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The maximum points one can obtain is 100 and it includes the following factors: education, language skills, international work experience, Canadian work experience, age, family connections in Alberta, and a job offer in Alberta. Individuals with higher scores are more likely to be selected for provincial nomination and if selected, you will receive an invitation to apply by email.

The AAIP will conduct ongoing draws around mid or late October 2024. The draws will be from the Worker Stream pool for specific pathways based on EOI score, provincial labour market needs, available AAIP nominations, and application levels. It is important to note that candidates are only permitted to submit one Worker EOI, so persons are advised to not create multiple entries.

Since both temporary residents currently in Canada and international candidates will be interested in this opportunity, persons must be cognizant of the need to increase their chances of receiving a Notice of Invitation (NOI) from the province. At Yanique Russell Law, we assist our clients by increasing their chances of receiving NOIs from their provinces of interest through a full assessment of their factors and by making recommendations on how they can increase their attractiveness and ultimately, chances of being selected. One of the most important factors is having a job offer from an employer within the province within an in-demand field.

How can Yanique Russell Law help you?
Navigating Canada’s immigration system is a complex matter with a lot of moving parts. Each province has various pathways to permanent residency, which may prove overwhelming for persons who choose to undertake the process on their own. Our team at Yanique Russell Law can meet with you about your immigration concerns and help you decide on the best pathway for PR given your particular circumstances.

Conclusion
With the increase in demand to live and work in Alberta, the province's government has changed its approach to handling the Expression of Interest system. This will help them select talented and skilled individuals to fill their labour shortages and help Alberta prosper.
