A spousal sponsorship application can be a daunting and challenging process. It's even more overwhelming to learn your application has been returned. We have shared a few pitfalls you may avoid when preparing one.
Six reasons your Spousal Sponsorship application may be returned.
A returned spousal sponsorship application may cause the applicant emotional strain. It is therefore very necessary to ensure the chances of a returned application are next to none as the resultant delay stemming from this may may last up to 3 months. A spousal sponsorship application may be delayed for any of the following reasons:
1. Incomplete or Incorrect forms- IRCC forms are constantly updated and it is imperative that the most recent version of the forms are submitted with your application.Â
2. Missing supporting documents- All applicants must provide correct versions of documents to support the information they have represented in the forms.
3. Photos not meeting the required specifications- IRCC has strict photograph specifications that must be adhered to. Failure to do so will cause your application to be returned to you until the requirements have been satisfied.Â
4. Ignoring the country specific requirements- There may be additional requirements that must be met in order for your application to be processed.Â
5. Relationship genuineness- This is mandatory in all spousal sponsorship applications. The visa officer must be convinced that the applicant has not committed a fraudulent marriage in order to gain permanent residence status. A refused application on this basis may lead to a 5 year ban for the sponsored spouse due to misrepresentation.Â
6. Insufficient information in submission letter- This is the applicant’s opportunity to ensure there are no stones unturned and the visa officer is fully apprised of the required details and evidence of the relationship.
