If you're a home childcare provider or a home support worker who would like to become a Canadian permanent resident, this blog is for you. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that a new Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot Program will open on March 31, 2025 in support of the country's 2024- 2026 Immigration Levels Plan. This pilot program will allow 15,000 caregivers and their families to receive Canadian permanent residence upon their arrival in the country.

To be eligible for the new program, foreign nationals must:
Have official language ability equivalent to a level 4 based on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) scale;
Hold the equivalent of a Canadian post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year;
Have recent and relevant work experience; and
Receive an offer of full-time employment for a home care job.
The 2 eligiblepositions are the home childcare provider (NOC 44100) or home support worker role (NOC 44101). Persons who are interested will need only 6 months of eligible work experience from within or outside Canada to qualify.

It is important that the qualifying work experience:
be in only 1 of the NOCs,
match the NOC job description with you performing most of the duties listed,
gained anytime in a 36-month period before you applied to the program with adequate proof of this work experience, and
be full time of at least 30 paid hours each week.
Any Canadian work experience a candidate gains must have been valid work experience accumulated while holding a valid work permit, under maintained status or under a public policy. Work experience earned as a full-time student does not count towards valid work experience.
